“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 3:20
Philippians 3:20–21
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.
Jesus came introducing the Kingdom of Heaven as the firstborn of many citizens. He lived from that place and modeled what life is like in that culture:
- Mercy and forgiveness
- Healing and health
- Sufficiency and abundance
- Love, joy, peace, righteousness, purity, holiness
To be born of heaven is to enter into citizenship.
- It’s not just avoiding hell
- It’s not just salvation from sin’s penalty
- It’s not just overcoming condemnation
- It is the entrance into the Kingdom of God / Kingdom of Heaven
The earth-bound life—under the influence of poverty, sickness, sin, and fear—are truly the influences of a foreign kingdom.
What are the implications of this citizenship that you’ve yet to partake of fully—things you are hoping for in this season?
